Pioneer today announces its new CDJ-400 deck - a flexible, affordable feature-packed performance player for the aspiring club DJ to use at home.

Designed by DJs for DJs and drawing inspiration from Pioneer's industry standard CDJ-1000 series, this latest member of the world-famous CDJ family is fully geared up to serve the next generation of digital artists. The CDJ-400 allows DJs to play their MP3 collection off CD-R/RW discs as well as music from mass storage USB devices, such as USB keys, external hard drives and portable media devices. The deck also features the world’s first Scratch Jog Effects, with three creative scratch effects and an amazing new Loop Divide function. Virtually all of the button and slider functions can send MIDI data via USB output, making it possible for the decks to control DJ software and other applications, such as Pioneer DJS or Serato Scratch LIVE on a PC or MAC. The CDJ-400 deck is a perfect partner for the DJM-400 mixer and together they provide the ultimate home party set-up.

Digital media playback
The CDJ-400 handles CD Audio and MP3 files from CD, while USB connectivity lets DJs draw upon sound libraries on external storage devices. Through the new push-selection Rotary Scroll Wheel and Back Button, users can navigate files and folders as simply and quickly as on many of the leading portable media players available today.

MIDI control via USB
With Pioneer's finger firmly on the pulse of digital DJ developments, it is only natural that the CDJ-400 can control DJ and music application software. This is achieved by simply selecting the PC Source Select button, so that virtually all of the deck's buttons and slider can send MIDI control data via the PC USB connection. So when MIDI is the message, the CDJ-400 definitely delivers. For example, a DJ can connect the CDJ-400 to a PC or MAC and play and manipulate files from their favourite DJ application software – such as Pioneer DJS or Serato Scratch LIVE – and this doesn’t even require a time-code disc to be used in the deck.

New illuminated Jog Wheel
With a design inspired by the club standard CDJ-1000 Jog Wheel comes the CDJ-400’s 115mm illuminated platter. You can choose from six different patterns of Jog Wheel illumination and even personalise your own CDJ 'slip mats' or jog sheets.

New Scratch Jog Effects
In addition to the Digital Jog Break Effects (JET, WAH and ROLL) found in CDJ Mode, Pioneer serves up the world's first Scratch Jog Effects, BUBBLE, TRANS and WAH, in vinyl mode. BUBBLE simulates a scratch technique and is great for spin backs, while TRANS is like rhythmically transforming with a mixer’s cross fader and WAH resembles the guitar Wah pedal.

AKAI MPC 1000 ROCK THE BEATS!!

It can host a very decent amount of memory (128MB) so you can capture very long samples in high quality (16 Bit, 44.1 Khz). 16 MB is very usable to start with actually, so you can live without it as you first learn how to use it. The extra 128 MB module can usually be found at a bit more than $100 and is not a standard memory module.

The built-in separate outputs, 2 for the main stereo + 4 assignable, makes it easy to route the sounds you want to separate tracks on your mixer or DAW. The MPC1000 comes standard with effects: 2 separate FX sections + a dedicated EQ and a dedicated Compressor on the MAIN OUT.

It can re-sample its own output while playing. This can be used in many ways: for example you can save a whole song as a WAV file on the Compact Flash card - very handy - or to apply effects and combine sounds together, and remap the result to other pads, etc.

It accepts "Type 2" Compact Flash cards like the ones used in many digital cameras. Those will work with models as large as 2 Gigabytes. It is a good idea to get a bigger Compact Flash card than the 32 MB one that's shipped with the MPC. You can work with it for a while but you will feel limited as far as saving large "programs" (a program is a collection of WAV files, plus a PGM file with the pad assignment and envelope information. You don't need to buy the largest CF Card however, because in my opinion those are too expensive right now... However the 256 and 512 MB ones are cheap enough considering how much they hold. Those cards are pretty small and my advice is to also buy a solid case to hold all of them.

    DJM 909 AHORA O NUNCA

    Out of the box and this thing is a beast. It's built to last (or cause a hernia) - you genuinely feel like this mixer will last for ever. It comes in marginally bigger than the usual 10" mixer but there is a lot under the hood on this one. Thankfully, the paint job is way better than it's younger sibling the 707. It would look perfect sat in amongst any DJ gear.

    The layout of the 2 channel scratch mixer is pretty much cast in stone - bar a few odds and ends the crossfader, upfaders and transform switches are all in the same layout as the rest of the market. The 909 throws up no surprises in this area with everything more or less where you might expect them. The only things in the fader area are fader start buttons, transformer switches and a master level button. LEDs to indicate channel or crossfader starts and channel reverses are neatly recessed so they don't get in the way.


    Pretty much everything else you might expect is on the front. Fader reverses are on the left, fader start on the right and curves in the middle. Interestingly, you can independently adjust the left and right curve of the crossfader as well as full curve control on the channel faders. In addition, you can also adjust the crossfader cut-in time via a knob sat between the crossfader curve adjust knobs. Adjustability is between 1 and 6mm - more than enough for anyone.

    YAMAHA QY70 CREATION IN THE WAY

    Un secuenciador de reducidas proporciones ideal para los músicos que viajan, con 32000 notas, polifonía 64/32 notas y 20 canciones. Perfecto para arreglos musicales, cuenta con un módulo AWM2 de sonidos incorporado y con puertos MIDI.     ABLETON LIVE 7

    Ableton Live 7 es la última versión de este avanzado y camaleónico programa de secuenciación de audio y midi, beat box, manipulado de grooves (y otras tantas funcionalidades y usos variados) que en poco tiempo ha conseguido posicionarse como una de las opciones mas frescas e interesantes en este campo y hacerse un hueco (y mas que eso) entre los pesos pesados de larga tradición como Cubase, Logic o Sonar, todo gracias a un concepto novedoso que ha conseguido aunar sencillez y sofisticación en un interfaz especialmente intuitivo ágil.

    Eduardo Broseta es un interesante y creativo músico, además de un avanzado usuario de Live, de cuya funcionalidad y concepto es un ferviente defensor. Aquí nos deja su interesante revisión de esta nueva versión de Ableton, el Live 7.

    Programa especializado en la sincronización de dispositivos MIDI, Analogos y Softwares tales como Reason, Fruity Loops Studio por ejem. Además cuenta con una extraordinaria adaptación a las Targetas de Sonido M-Audio.

    DJM-600 UNDERGROUND MIXER

    From the ability to either split the two channels coming in to your phones, or mix them together, to the way it's all layed out, the cueing section on the 600 has to be one of the best I've ever used.

    The effects have been slightly improved in my opinion on the 500, but I can't think why. Just hit the big yellow button with the flanger set to 4/1 and you'll think you're Oakenfold for those four bars.

    The Eq's are as tight as ever, really nicely laid out on the mixer so there's no chance of hitting the line/phono switch like on the Gemini series of mixers, the amount that they take out in each frequency is perfect - and the sound you're left with when killing the bass is not tinny and shrill like with the Gemini series.

    The sampler's a nice idea too. Being able to record up to 8 seconds of the tune (all done through the beat counter, so you don't have to worry about edits like on the Numark mixers) then loop it seamlessly - get the crowd a bit antsy - then fire off to another tune - beautiful. The only thing I'd like is for the sampler to remember the last sampler even when the mixer's been turned on and off.

    The amount of outputs, inputs, control and creativity made available through this mixer makes it more than worth the £750 current price tag - even when you think you could buy two SL's for that cost!!

    If you have the money, are into long, drawn
    out, seamless, creative trance/progressive mixes, and you have the money, I can honestly say (IMHO) that there is no better mixer out there.
